BRIEF

This wood clad beach hoouse is situated right on the sea front in Bracklesham bay and has uninterrupted views of the beach. The downstairs is open plan and has a great flow, however most of the upstairs rooms have sloping ceilings.  Inside Out Lifestyle is adding a side extension to the gable end to allow for more spacious rooms that will match the style of the downstairs, and with a full width dormer and balcony the upstairs will be transformed dramatically.

MID WAY THROUGH PROJECT

  • The dormer window has a new fibreglass roof for ultimate seaside protection
  • A couple of steel supports have been fitted to take the load of the new extended roof
  • Here is the new vertical steel fitting nicely to the new steel installed in the lounge ceiling downstairs
  • Framework for the new sliding doors from the upstairs bedroom
  • The new view from this room is going to be amazing!
  • In the second bedroom the new dormer window has increased the usable space dramatically.

  • This room originally had a sloping ceiling and it is now a far superior space/bedroom
  • Downstairs there is a new steel in the ceiling to provide support for the new double size room upstairs
  • New ceiling in the downstairs additional living space makes this a cosier space

COMPLETED PROJECT

  • The dormer window now goes full width creating so much more usable space in the rooms inside
  • Where possible we reused the slate tiles from the roof for the new extension
  • The downstairs multi-function gym/office now has a lower ceiling as upstairs is a new bedroom in the extension, but will has an impressive sea view
  • In the open plan dining space we had to remove the chimney and wood burning stove
  • The stair previously had no balustrade so we have fitted a toughened glass one which allows maximum light into the hallway
  • New glass balustrade and steel hand rails
  • A new solid steel hand rail has been fitted and matches the existing one
  • This room has almost doubled in size from the dormer window extension
  • The two sea-facing bedrooms now have flat ceilings and have so much more usable space
  • We fitted a shower into this existing bathroom
  • Ian is showing where the previous dormer window and balcony stopped before
  • The new cladding is weathering nicely and blending in with the existing woodwork
  • The full width balcony is accessible from all rooms now
  • Galvanised light fittings ensure they will last a long time in this seaside environment

  • Previously the fence was two planks lower. This option gives much more privacy to both sides.
  • In the seaside garden we built a slightly higher fence to the neighbouring property to match in with the existing fence
